The Jean Genie

Citizens of Humanity nails new season denim

It’s fair to say Citizens of Humanity’s founder Jerome Dahan and Creative Director Catherine Ryu are obsessed with denim. It’s an addiction which serves their loyal fans well; they deliver both considered, modern classics and directional styles to catapult us into the next season. Which brings me to their new Drew Flounce style: jeans so good, they bring Friday optimism to the most miserable Monday. High-waisted for leg-lengthening trickery, black for slimming and general all-round chic-ness, and the pièce de résistance? A kick-ass kick-flare that sums up the season’s obsession with frills. No longer just for debutante dresses, ruffles add a subversive femininity when juxtaposed with boyish elements. Spliced into blazers at Ellery, cascading down oversized shirting at Jacquemus and our case in point here, serving up a major jean-genius on this winning style from Citizens of Humanity. Accessorise with a silver heel and a spring in your step: I dare you not to dance!
